Senior Tigers Update: February 16, 2023

TIGERS ARE VANCOUVER SEA TO SKY SOUTH ZONE CHAMPIONS:
Congratulations to all of our Skiers and Snowboarders on a terrific season. YHS dominated our league races and this past Friday, at the VS2S South Zone Championships, the Tigers owned the podium.

Our snowboarders won gold, silver and bronze with Lyra winning gold while Dylan and Ruby took silver and bronze. All four snowboarders have qualified for the BCs. Congrats to Lyra, Macey, Dylan, and Ruby.

Our Skiers also owned the podium placing 1st – 5th. Nicole edged our Maddie to win gold, Maddie took home silver and Sarah took bronze. All three qualified for the BCs along with Alexa, Isabelle, and Ruby.

Thank you coaches Mr. Lum and Ms. Matthews and to the entire Team.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADE 8 BASKETBALL TEAM:
The Grade 8s wrapped up their great season today with a hard-fought 56-44 loss to St. Pat’s in the LMISSAA semi-final. St. Pat’s was the undefeated #1 team all season but our Tigers improved all year, played great, and almost pulled off the most incredible upset. Our Tigers stayed close the entire first half and led 23-22 at half-time. St. Pat’s couldn’t stop Jamie or handle our defense. YHS led by three points in the third quarter. The game remained close in the fourth quarter and with just 3:45 left, YHS trailed 41-40 then 44-42. St. Pat’s has one very good player who was just too much in the final minutes making two 3-point shots and giving St. Pat’s a nine-point lead that was too much.

It was such an exciting and fun game to watch which was evident by the standing ovation they received from parents following the game. This Team was a pleasure to coach. They are fun, hard-working, committed, and have improved so much.
